POSITION
At this point in time, we are looking to expand our team with a Wholesale Buyer.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Purchase merchandise for resale using Florisoft software
Manage purchase requests from sales with growers through phone and email correspondence ensuring products availability, shortages and substitutes.
Source product and communicate logistics for all last-minute orders by quick analytical judgment based on level of commitment to the customers, determining this from the sales account manager or DSM.
Conduct research and proper due diligence to source additional product from current or new suppliers according to company needs, understanding industry trends and communicating such with management and other company team members.
Some travel to visit growers and other vendors of interest (current and new) to build strong, strategic relationships and stay current with offerings, new items, new procedures etc.
Reflect/update pricing weekly according to market fluctuations, supply and demand, vigilantly corresponding with the DSM when applicable in addition to best practices.
Select the merchandise which best fits the establishment's requirements
Interview suppliers and negotiate prices, discounts, credit terms and transportation arrangements
Correspond all pickups for local product with the logistics administrator to ensure all logistics are arranged weekly.
Correspond with local/international growers weekly to determine product availability prior to compiling the data into Florisoft and producing a price list for distribution.
Source and communicate to SAM any special offerings from growers throughout the year continually endeavouring to support the sales teams’ effort to increase sales and margins.
Build and administer peak period holiday availability lists in advance to optimize sales manager’s ability to pre book. Holidays include Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate needs to have:
A college diploma in business
Previous work experience in wholesale
Exceptional negotiation skills
Basic accounting skills
Quick, on-the-ball thinking.
High competency level in using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
Ability to foresee and/or recognize the needs of sales team to procure products in a timely manner
Experience providing Client/Customer Relationship Management, juggling the wants and needs of many
Strong forecasting abilities
An ability to work independently
Interest in world events that may affect the supply chain
Ability and interest in learning new software programs
Driven, with a strong work ethic and sense of self
Willingness to put in extra hours to ensure needs of the organization are met
A cheerful, friendly, helpful, enthusiastic, confident team player!
JOB DETAILS
this concerns a permanent position of 40 hours/week. The wage offered is $29.90 per hour
benefits: a Health Spending/Wellness Spending account up to $3,000 per year
the job requires longer hours on some days versus shorter hours on other days
applicants must be willing to work evenings and Saturdays around major holidays
location of work: Work is primarily carried out in an office environment (on-site) at our head office at 465495 Curries Road, Woodstock Ontario N4S 7V8
can be highly stressful at times due to tight deadlines and nature of our perishable products
good English language skills are required
fluency in French is an asset
fluency in Portugese is an asset for communication with our growers in South America
Working conditions:
Must be willing to work in +2 degree cooler environment
Temperature differences can range between +30 degrees to -10 degrees
Sitting, standing, walking, bending and lifting will be required
