Job Duties: 

Oversee the creation, selection, and preparation of content tailored to the interests and needs of the Chinese-speaking community in Calgary, focusing on national and international news, entertainment, health and lifestyle, and community events.

Ensure all published content meets high standards of accuracy, integrity, and relevance. This includes fact-checking, proofreading, and editing articles for grammatical correctness, clarity, and coherence, with attention to the cultural nuances and preferences of the readership.

Develop strategies to engage with the Chinese-speaking community in Calgary, incorporating feedback and suggestions to improve the newspaper's content and reach. This may involve organizing community events or initiatives that the newspaper can sponsor or cover.

With the evolving landscape of media consumption, incorporate multimedia content such as videos, podcasts, and online articles that can enhance the reader's experience and expand the newspaper's digital footprint.

Oversee the advertisement and classifieds sections, ensuring that content is relevant and appropriate for the audience.

Maintain a high level of cultural sensitivity and compliance with legal and ethical standards in all content.

Continuously seek innovative ways to present news and information, adapting to changes in media consumption habits and preferences within the community. This may involve exploring new formats, platforms, or content types that resonate with the readership.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
Experience in Journalism or Editing.
Proficiency in Chinese and English.
Strong Editorial Skills: Ability to edit for grammar, clarity, and accuracy, with a keen eye for detail.
Understanding of the cultural nuances, preferences, and sensitivities of the Chinese-speaking community.
Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills.
Understanding digital media trends and using multimedia content to enhance the newspaper's offering.
Interest and willingness to engage with the local Chinese-speaking community and represent their interests through the publication.
