Responsibilities
Tasks
• Identifying and investigating compliance issues
• Plan and control budget and expenditures
• Establish and implement policies and procedures
• Train, direct and motivate staff
• Assign, co-ordinate and review projects and programs
• Monitor financial control systems
• Oversee the collection and analysis of financial data
• Oversee the preparation of reports
• Advise senior management
• Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate daily operations

• Perform human resources related duties such as personnel selection
• Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems

Job Duties
• Provide leadership to a group of Specialists/Analysts, coaching and developing future leaders and enhancing Financial Planning and Analysis Capability;
• Responsible for leading the monthly forecasting and annual budgeting process for up to 5 operations portfolios. This involves a high level of communication and collaboration with numerous groups;
• Translate operational changes into a financial forecast with a focus on accuracy and insight;
• Coordinate and review timely reporting to on financial performance vs Forecast and volume adjusted Budget;
• Be a positive force for change, always looking for opportunity to partner with the operations teams to continually improve the company’s financial performance;
• Financial Planning technical lead for expense finance systems and models. Responsible for continually improving model and system infrastructure; reporting and analysis; using all available systems to further automate key reports; opportunities for improved financial reporting efficiency and driving accountability; and
• Identifying key drivers while gaining a thorough understanding of the business models.

• Extensive Railroad or similar industry experience (large multinational, military or transportation) across CA, US, and MX (e.g., regulations, familiarity with accounting capitalization policies)
• Merger and acquisition experience pref’d;
• Extensive MS Excel modeling skills req’d; VBA an asset;
• Experience with SAP ECC and SAP BPC similar financial applications req’d;
• Professional Designation or advanced degree (CPA, CFA, MBA) an asset;
• Management experience, preferably with an operational focus;
• Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor;
• Demonstrable continuous improvement and critical thinking approach;
• Strong attention to detail;
• Strong communication skills (written and oral);
• Will be required to track and report business results amid business transactions executed in three different currencies.
