Café Portrait is seeking a Cook to join our team. As a successful applicant, you will have at least 2 years of experience as a cook and will be able to demonstrate your creativity and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for preparing delicious meals, managing the kitchen, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety.

We are a popular restaurant that prides itself on serving high-quality food and providing excellent customer service. We offer delicious brunch dishes, pastries, as well as both traditional and Turkish coffee. We are looking for a chef who shares our commitment to excellence and who will help us to maintain our reputation as one of the West End’s finest food establishments.

Job Title & NOC: Cook (NOC 63200) Full-time and permanent
Wage: $19.00 per hour for 7.5-hour shift / 5 days per week
Overtime: Paid after 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week and as per BC Labour laws
Vacation: 2 weeks paid
Positions available: 1
Start Date: As soon as possible
Location: 1120 Denman St, Vancouver, BC V6G 1T2

The ideal applicant will have:
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a cook in a similar establishment
• Education: Completion of high school
• Knowledge of different cuisines and cooking techniques
• Ability to plan and prepare menus and recipes
• Ability to manage inventory, order supplies, and control costs
• Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
• Attention to detail and a commitment to food safety and hygiene standards
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays

Job Duties:
• Prepare and cook brunch items, including eggs, pancakes, waffles, sandwiches, salads, and other breakfast/lunch items
• Prepare and cook baked goods, including bread, pastries, and desserts
• Train and supervise kitchen staff, including line cooks and prep cooks, and ensure quality and consistency of dishes
• Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed to ensure adequate stock
• Implement food safety and hygiene standards, and ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations
• Manage costs and ensure profitability by minimizing waste and controlling food and labour costs
• Collaborate with the front-of-house staff to provide exceptional customer service and ensure a positive dining experience
• Stay up-to-date with culinary trends and techniques, and continuously improve the menu and offerings to keep the restaurant competitive
• Ensure food quality in presentation and production throughout the venue
• Support the mentorship and development of all culinary team members on a daily basis
• Supervise kitchen helpers
• Assist with other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
